GIZ SRECA jointly with the Guangxi Office on Planning, Development and Management of the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, China (BG Office) successfully conducted the triangular Port Cities Cooperation Network International Exchange and Training Programme” from 23-25 November 2021 online. After 2019 it is the second time both partners jointly organised this training format on port cooperation and port management for ASEAN countries. More than 50 high ranking participants from respective ministries, port authorities and logistics companies from Cambodia, Lao PDR and Vietnam participated actively in the training.

During the training, experts from Bremenports Group, Germany and Shanghai Maritime University, China shared practical insights on the evolution of smart port concepts, technology and utilisation as well as step-by-step business modelling to transform ports and port management. Their inputs emphasised digitalisation and innovation processes, integrated development of regional port clusters, and global challenges in port management amid the Covid 19 pandemic. The participants were actively involved in knowledge exchange to further improve their port management skills.

Participant’s feedback shows that the training improved practical knowledge and awareness of challenges and opportunities regarding smart port processes. Based on this year’s experiences, GIZ and the BG Office will further develop the training contents and curricula for further joint training formats in 2022.
